Casperia

Casperia, a medieval town perched on a limestone hill, offers a unique ambience due to its location and the layout of the village. Entering on foot you are struck by the scents and sights of another era; the rhythms and the colours take you back in time. The tranquility and serenity of the place will surely enchant you. Casperia is a small hill town nestled among the verdant Monti Sabini in the province of Rieti. It has a population of about 1,200. Known as Aspra Sabina until 1946, Casperia is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in all the Monti Sabini, which are protected at both the national and European level. Casperia’s historic centre is an extraordinary example of medieval architecture: The hill town is shaped like an onion bulb, with concentric circles of streets that gradually shrink as they climb up the slopes of the hill to culminate in Piazza San Giovanni Battista where the parish church of St. John the Baptist stands. It is one of only six towns in all of Europe that is totally inaccessible by car due to its characteristic stone stairways.

The House
